Spotlight on: Pro México Association

The Pro México Association was founded in Guadalajara in 1974 and, in 2014, opened a center in San Juan Cosalá. Since then, it has been an organization committed to improving the living conditions of vulnerable individuals and communities in the Lake Chapala region.

Operations at the San Juan Cosalá center began in 2014 with a Solidarity Economy Project aimed at strengthening the community’s productive and organizational capacities, promoting collaborative work and local development.

Later, in 2019, the Digital Center was inaugurated thanks to a donation of equipment from the company HP, which made it possible to expand opportunities for access to technology and digital learning for the community.

That same year, the Entrepreneurship Project was launched. It remains active and offers various courses each year. Each group is assigned a mentor who accompanies and supports participants throughout the entire training process.

During the current year, the following technical courses will be offered:

  • Healthy nutrition
  • Food dehydration
  • Facial cosmetics

In addition, participants receive complementary training in:

  • Life planning
  • Financial education
  • Digital skills
  • Entrepreneurship

The program will begin in March, last seven months, and be held one day per week, with three-hour sessions. The cost-recovery fee is 200 pesos per month.

Approximately 60 people enroll each year, and over time about 270 women and men have graduated.

The purpose of this program is to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities for work in the communities of the Lake Chapala region, promoting entrepreneurship and employability, with a positive impact on family and community economies.
